Here’s how Phi Sigma Kappa impacted my life

Phi Sig  is the place where we had a lot of firsts. It’s the place where we first ventured out of our hometowns, the first place we bonded to on campus, and the place where we first learned how to be real men. Read on to see what your brothers said on how Phi Sig impacted their lives.

Phi Sig was a big part of my Penn State experience, and hence played a big part in my life. My experience at Penn State not only provided me with the academic foundation that I have been able to build on, but it has also provided me with numerous lifelong friends, including some of my Phi Sig brothers. We all grew up together and had a number of bonding experiences that tie us together. I still consider Penn State “home” even though I live 1000 miles away.” – Naren Gursahaney ‘83

“It was a great experience to deal with different people and situations. It does give you a different perspective on what is important.” – Mike Bache ’78

“The greatest impact Phi Sig had on my life was how much I learned about people and what makes them tick. We all had different backgrounds, different interests and different skills. Not everyone always got along. But as a whole, we had a strong brotherhood.”Jim Spahn ‘76

“I learned how to integrate into most social and business environments.” – James Hancock ‘53

“I was in a great (and very smart) pledge class — We still see each other at football games. The friendships I made at the house have continued for the last 55 years.  A number of guys from the house, and from Sigma Chi, ended up getting our first jobs in the Philadelphia area.  We had lots of social gatherings together and when we finally matured a little (I hope) and married, our wives and children became good friends.  A number of our kids also attended PSU so we had numerous multi-generational tailgates.  And we still do.” – Bruce Balmat ’70
